How disgust affects social judgments

The emotion of disgust has been claimed to affect a diverse array social judgments, including moral condemnation, inter-group prejudice, political ideology, and much more. We attempt make sense this large varied literature by reviewing the theory research on how why influences these judgments. first describe two very different perspectives adopted researchers should judgment. is pathogen-avoidance account, which sees relationship between judgment as resulting from disgust's evolved function mechanism. second extended posits that functions more broadly address range other threats challenges. then review empirical evidence assess well it supports each perspectives, arguing there support for account than account. conclude with some testable predictions can better distinguish perspectives.
